Quote from a novel

Working on a novel where a succubus falls in love with a human and is trying to explain love from her perspective. I just found it an interesting way to view the greatly misused and misunderstood word.

“But you do love me, right?”, Jenna asked, knowing she could accept everything about the creature if that were also true.

“We actually try to avoid using that word because humanity has changed its meaning. It should be an expression of deep commitment to another, but all too often, humans use it as a justification for exploitation. But to answer your question, you are here because I chose you to be. I accommodate your needs and your desire because it pleases me to do so. True love isn’t unconditional, it is very conditional. I will continue to love you for who you are, just as I hope you continue to love me for who I am. The matter is not settled for eternity, but rather in each moment.”
