Ode to War

Into this world I was thrust into war,

Vietnam was just the start of my life.

Cambodia and Laos, oh, such splendor,

How I’ve learned so much of hatred and strife.

Afghanistan and the Iraqi heat,

Grenada, Libya, and Panama too,

Death comes for all except for the elite,

Their son’s privileges don’t apply to you,

I could name so many places they fall,

Bosnia and Haiti, but also drugs,

The war on terror and black men who fall,

The police in the street, acting like thugs,

Is it a wonder we follow our path,

We have no compassion, only our wrath.
